NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS
K/1 - We had a very busy week.  On Tuesday we visited the Planetarium at the Town hall.  It was wonderful!  Please ask your child about his/her experience.
On Thursday we went to the library and Mr. Brower read a story to everyone.  Library will be in two weeks, November 6th.   We learned time and counting on by tens in first grade math.  Kindergarten measured items bigger and smaller than they are as well as weighing objects in the balance pans.
We administered reading assessments on Thursday for the first through sixth grade.  The first graders were very proud and pleased to be reading one at a time to me.  They did very well.
Next Tuesday the Chewonki group will give us a presentation on bats in the morning.  We are doing follow up activities about bats so look for these.
Interim report are being sent home today.  These are just a snapshot of your child≠s progress the ≥official≈ report cards come home on December 5th and we will have conferences before that to discuss the report and your child≠s progress.  Have a fun weekend!

2/3 - We have had the best week.  We have been busy learning about elections, reading Halloween book, and learning silent e rules.  We have a new friend in our class.  His name is Cameron.  He is in second grade.  Reed is glad to have a boy in his class finally.  We are practicing for the Patriotic Concert we will perform the day after election day.  Please set aside some time to bake for the PTO annual election  day bake sale.  We need moms and dads to man the table from 11:30 - 3:00.  I would think an hour is all you need to volunteer to do.  Does anyone have time to sell goodies?  We have a strange bus useful visitor coming to our class on Tuesday........has a connection to Halloween as well.
Mid trimester reports come home today,  8 weeks have gone by already.  If you have questions or concerns please call Mrs. M.

4,5,6 - We≠ve  started to study the U.S. government just in time for the election.

Students were introduced to the three branches of government and the role of each branch.  They were astounded to learn that the president doesn≠t make the laws.  We then discussed why a candidate for President would make promises if he/she was unable to keep them.  Next week we will look at campaign advertising and examine how candidates try to win your vote.  If you are watching TV with your child, have him/her listen closely to these campaign ads.  We have started our MAD Minutes in math!  Each student is trying to successfully solve twenty-five math facts in one minute.  They receive their choice when they complete each level(addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division).  We will be doing these daily until just before Christmas vacation.
